UPDATED OREGON PAYROLL TAX INFORMATION

If you are required to make your federal payroll deposits electronically, then your Oregon payroll taxes need to be paid electronically too. See below for more information.

New Federal Payroll Depositing Requirements

Due to a regulatory change, the IRS will no longer accept Federal Tax Deposit coupons (8109 or 8109-B coupons). Beginning January 1, 2011, you will have to make your federal tax deposits electronically. You may be charged a 10% penalty for making a non-electronic deposit. Check with your financial institution to find out its cut-off date for accepting the federal tax deposit coupons.

You can sign up for electronic payments through the U.S. Department of the Treasury, through your financial institution or a third party such as a payroll service. To use the Treasury’s service, visit www.eftps.gov or call EFTPS Customer Service at 1-888-434-7338. You will need your banks routing and account numbers. There is no cost for using EFTPS if you schedule the payment yourself via this site or by telephone. You can make payments whenever you want, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can even enter payment instructions up to 120 days in advance. Payments must be scheduled at least one day prior to the due date. Your payment instruction will be executed on the date you select.

After you enroll, your PIN and instructions on obtaining a password will be mailed separately to you within seven business days. If you have already signed up for electronic payments and have forgotten your PIN and/or password call 1-800-555-8778.

UPDATE

Oregon requires employers to deposit taxes using the same requirements as the IRS. So if you are required to pay your federal taxes electronically, then Oregon also requires this. We have attached Oregon’s Authorization Agreement which needs to be filled out prior to making payments online. Let us know if you have any questions. Or if you would like to read more about it go to www.oregon.gov/dor and go to the business section. They also have an EFT Help line at 503-947-2017.
